Every day our homes get smarter and smarter. Long gone are the days of a thermostat with a needle that was far from accurate. Here are the days of digital thermostats which report humidity and outside temperature and provide insights into your energy usage.

But home technology is not just limited to thermostats. There is so much going on in the world of home technology, it is hard to keep up! But after a busy year in Des Moines, we took a break and found some of the best new home technology on the market.

August Smart Lock

Sometimes locking and unlocking your door is a pain. As is slipping a key under the mat for your company. Introducing the August Smart Lock, a lock for your home, via your smartphone. With this lock (and mobile app), you can lock and unlock your door, create virtual keys for guests, and keep track of who comes and goes!

Amazon Echo or Google Home

These two products are seeking to expand on earlier home technology; but this time, these tools are nearly unlimited in their potential. These hands-free devices are prepared to respond to questions on command. You can make a call, order products, play music, send and receive text messages, find out about the weather, and much more.

Nest Products

The Nest thermostat and the Nest cam are some of the best products to come onto the market in recent years. The thermostat learns your home and helps set the temperature schedule to maximize the efficiency of your HVAC system. The cam (which works with Amazon Alexa) provides 24/7 live video of any room in your house. And if it detects activity, you can receive a phone alert or email to check in on your home.

Self-Watering Planter

If you travel a lot or are just nortorious for forgetting to water plants, the self watering planter could be the perfect addition to your home. The planter is simple: plant, fill the water tank, turn on, and watch the plants grow!

All of us have done it: gone to bed and suddenly worried that we left the garage door open. Gogogate takes care of that. This digital app shows you not only if the door is open or closed, but allows you to monitor the door status 24 hours a day from anywhere in the world. This is just an added security blanket as it also provides push notifications and the ability to reject access to your guests.
