Today’s American culture is all about action and doing. We as a society do not get enough time to practice simply being with all the distractions and stimuli fighting for our attention. Mindfulness is the practice of being and this type of practice is very beneficial in reducing stress and allowing you to gain a healthy cognitive digestion process of your experiences.
Here are a couple of ways to practice mindfulness as you go through your normal day:
- Make a mental note of how you feel when you wake up in the morning, and compare to lifestyle choices from the day before.
- Pay attention to your body and your hunger signals. Listening to what your body is telling you can help with your mental health as well.
- Try driving/walking to work without music on.
- Allow quiet transition time between work and home to reset and calm so you do not bring your stress home with you.
