Nobody likes moving. But there are things you can do to prepare for a stress-free move, and maybe even make it a fun day!
Make a checklist
One of the most important tips is to make a checklist of everything you need to remember to do. These can include transferring utilities, setting up new ones, and changing your addresses for your phone, insurance and magazines. Not only that, but you'll need to know who will be helping you move, you may have to take days off work, and do not forget to measure your new home to know if any items won't fit in your new space!
Start packing early
One of the biggest stressors when moving is the actual process of packing. No one likes it. It's time consuming. And when you begin to pull stuff out of closets and drawers, you really see how much stuff you have (and how much you have to move). But the earlier you begin, the easier it will be to sift through all your possessions and only move what you are actually going to want in your new home.
Label all your boxes and designate where they go in your new home
As you pack your current home, make sure you label what the box contains (books, pillows, frames, etc.), but also note which room in the new home it belongs in. You can use names (Bedroom 1, 2, Kitchen, Basement, etc.) or colors, but it will make it easy to unload your car or truck and get your boxes to their final destination much sooner.
Pack a suitcase
As you pack, keep back a few sets of clothes so that you can box up everything else early. Not only does this make the packing process easier because you don't have to wait until the last minute to pack all of your clothes and bathroom items, but it also means that you don't have to unpack your bedroom and bathroom on your first day in your new home.
And if all else fails, hire a mover!
Sometimes you just want to hire a mover. That's okay, too!
